Surrounded by Times Square, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, and Herald Square lies a small community that seems to be lost in the overwhelming richness and elite status of its neighborhood, but one whose exponential rate of success boldly flashes its colors and openly challenges its neighbors. This flourishing neighborhood is Koreatown. Although it is a relatively new neighborhood, Koreatown’s success deserves close attention and even praise. What separates Koreatown from other Korean neighborhoods is its image and class. While most Korean neighborhoods are residential and reflect old Korean immigration with an ethnic core deeply set in the Korean community, Koreatown is primarily commercial and the representation of a new modern Korea – Korea of the 21st century. This Korea is built on blossoming businesses for the comfort of young-spirited middle-class crowd providing the most convenient services available. Koreatown is a new blend of old traditional tastes with a zest of new specimens worth trying. It is truly a piece de resistance!
