Help:Google

From The Peopling of New York City

How to import Google maps into your wiki page.

  1. Starting editing the text on the page where you want the Google Map to appear.
  2. Click on the "make a map" link on the upper right corner of the edit box. A map-making graphic will appear above your text box.
  3. Locate your neighborhood on the map, either using the search function or by clicking and dragging your map to the desired location.
  4. Adjust the magnification and layout (satellite view or map view).
  5. Click on the map to draw the points you want to isolate. Write a caption for your point (for example, "Coney Island Aquarium", then either press "save and close" or "draw a path." (If you're going to use the "draw a path" function, it seems to work better to draw all the points first, and then go back and add captions after the points are positioned. You can always move the points by dragging them around on the map.)
  6. Once you have all the points on your map, you have to first copy and paste the code beneath the map into the text box below before you close out of the map creation tool.
  7. Save your changes to the page, and your map should appear where you position the code, like so:

Coney Island

You can also add images to the captions (like a picture of a monument or storefront) by adding a wiki code image tag in the Google map code. To see an example of this, click on the first point of the map above and cross-reference with the wikicode within the edit view of the page.

(P.S. The points on the map above are for mock-up and are not accurate!)
