Pre-1950s Corona was predominately an Italian-American and African-American neighborhood. During the 1950s, though, there was a very large influx of Dominicans, though a part of Corona near "Spaghetti Park" still has an Italian-American community. Recently, Dominicans have given way to other immigrant groups such as Mexicans, Ecuadorians, Colombians and other Latin American ethnic groups. Primary transportation in Corona is by either bus or the 7 train, which has 3 stops in Corona.

Corona currently has two Dominican representatives in government: Julissa Ferreras [pictured on the right], New York City Councilwoman, and the New York State Senator Jose Peralta[pictured on the left]. Julissa Ferreras entered the city council in March 2009 as representative of District 21 which includes Corona. Jose Peralta currently represents District 13 in the New State Senate.
