Using a google blog
Monday, March 31st, 2008I have created a “makeshift” blog with which to sell the idea that Myspace is not particularly necessary for our initiative. I made three posts onto the blog that can show off what we can use it for.
The first blog entry on the webpage is an email conversation between myself and a congressman. It is easier to email a large group of congressman/activists/group leaders using email (since we would just have to separate their names with a comma) and just use a template for the email we would be sending out. Emailing these people will probably yield better results and give us a larger group of people to choose from since everyone has an email address, but not everyone has a myspace page.
Also, each blog entry has a comment feature, allowing people in the class to comment on each of the pages.
Finally, we can easily “group” all of our blogs together, making it easier to comment on each other’s blogs.
The second blog entry just shows how easy it is to post an article, or something that we have written ourselves. In Myspace, this would be very difficult to do, simply because of the layout of the pages.
The third blog entry would be our video, showing again, how easy it is to implement a youtube video into a blog neatly.
The blogs are free, they look more professional, are extremely customizable, we can name them as we see fit (this one is called FutureofNYC.blogspot.com) and again, we can bypass Myspace, which forces us to use a style that is difficult to work with professionally while also cutting off a large base of politicians, groups and activists simply because they do not use Myspace.
