As part of the 350th Anniversary of the Flushing Remonstrance, City Councilor John Liu, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, and the Korean American Community Foundation sponsored a Flushing Community Leadership Workshop: Building Bridges for the Future on October 27, 2007 at the Sheraton La Guardia Hotel in Flushing. [1] This inter-community workshop brought together nearly 100 neighborhood leaders including Community Board 7 members and stakeholders to discuss the challenges that face Flushing including many that have been presented on our wiki site including commercial signage, development issues, growth "externalities", small business practices and race relations, and language barriers. Although the discussion was difficult at times, all participants were enthusiastic about the forum and optimistic that concrete or actionable steps can be taken to mitigate neighborhood conflict and improve the quality of life for all Flushing residents.
