St. George’s Church, an Episcopal/Anglican institution, is located on Main Street between 38th and 39th Avenue, and has had to adjust its services and programs to meet the needs of the increasing African American, West Indian, Asian, and Hispanic populations in Flushing. St. George’s Church, although a religious institution, is better described as a community service organization. There is a hospitality group that consists of English, Asian, or Hispanic assistants who help out during the various church services from baptisms to funerals. The Outreach Committee fights for the needs of the hungry, poor, and homeless in the community of Flushing. St. George’s Brotherhood aims to spread the Christian faith, to aid the sick, widows, and orphans, to mentor the community’s youth. The Docents Guild is responsible for welcoming and answering the questions of anyone coming into St. George’s Church, who wish to pray between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A Sunday school, youth group, and Chinese and English choirs are also factions of St. George’s Church.

Community activities scheduled through some of these groups include a basketball contest hosted by the Sunday school and a health fair hosted by Outreach Committee. A more detailed list of all the groups a part of St. George’s Church can be found here In addition to all these community programs, it is evident that St. George’s Church caters to the various languages used in Flushing. St. George’s Church provides services in English, Chinese, and Spanish addressing the many cultures and corresponding languages that are experienced in Flushing.
