The Frick Gallery

The collection of art in the Frick Collection is not like the art we’ve discussed in class in the past weeks. It would be nice to see classic art for a change in the New York setting. The venue is not some big museum but set I a large house whose corridors bear paintings and sculptures of varying sizes. One impressive room is called the Fragonard, where tall windows illuminate painting of angels and a series of paintings done by the artist whom the room is named after. Experiencing art in a more relaxed setting with low ceilings, and natural lighting from windows and outdoor courtyards, allows one to appreciate art.

The Guggenheim

As we discussed in class, there was a response to photography in the early 20th century. Having talked about the pieces or art and the movements that followed impressionism, cubism, surrealism, and minimalism, it would be great to actually see this work in person as well as various other “modern” works of art in a geometric style of architecture that is the Soloman R. Guggenheim Museum. The architecture of the Guggenheim itself is a wonder to look at it with its cylindrical and spiraling body, it is a different feeling to step into an awkward building in comparison to New York’s rectangular steel and glass skyscrapers.
