Park Slope Food Coop

From The Peopling of NYC

The Park Slope Food Coop is located in the center of Park Slope on 782 Union Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues in Park Slope). They have over 12,000 members who work about once every 4 weeks in exchange for a 20-40% discount. Only members can shop at the Park Slope Food Coop, but membership is available to all.

The idea behind this is to make healthy food affordable to everyone.

"Local, organic and conventionally grown produce; pasture-raised and grass-fed meat; free-range, organic and kosher poultry; fair-traded chocolate and coffee; wild and sustainably farmed fish; supplements and vitamins; imported and artisan cheese; freshly baked bread; bulk grains and spices; environmentally safe cleaning supplies, and much more. All of this, plus a large selection of standard supermarket items, makes the Coop a one-stop shopping destination."

How to Join
1. Attend a new member orientation
2. Choose a Coop workslot
3. Take a photo for your Coop member card
4. Make your member payment of $25 (non refundable) joining fee, and $100 investment. If you are on income based assistance, the price is lowered dramatically.
