South Slope

From The Peopling of NYC

South Park Slope is a residential neighborhood, characterized by row houses. It was developed in the late 19th century, early 20th century to accomodate workers at local factories and at the Gowanas Canal. Mainly immigrants settled in the area during that time because of the low house costing. Now because of high real estate prices in North Park Slope, middle class people are settling in the area. Fifth Avenue is the neighborhood’s commercial corridor, with single-story commercial buildings and with three to four story buildings.
