The Current State of Times Square
Today, the mention of Times Square immediately conjures up images of bright lights, theater marquis, flashy billboards, and larger than life advertisements. In the city that never sleeps, Times Square is the center of it all. Tourists flock to its theater district and entertainment centers, while locals occupy the many corporate, legal, publishing, and media firms housed within its buildings.
As family friendly attraction such as Toys “R” Us, ESPN Zone, TKTS, and the Hershey Store become the overarching presence in the area, it is difficult to imagine the Square’s seedier past. Major corporations and firms such as Ernst & Young, The New York Times Company, Morgan Stanley, and Conde Nast Publications, contribute to the development of Times Square as an influential section of New York. Hotels, restaurants, multiplex movie theaters, and shopping make Times Square the bustling, energetic, and dynamic neighborhood that it has become.
