Neil Kenny

Neil Kenny was born on March 13, 1949. He is the son of a factory worker and a telephone exchange operator. Kenny elected to join the Marine Corps on June 26th, 1967. Kenny served there during the entire siege of Khe Sahn with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines. During the war Mr. Kenny received two purple hearts, along with the Navy Commendation Medal for Valorous Service, in addition to other decorations. Mr. Kenny completed his GED in 1969, and began course work at Staten Island Community College in 1970. He served as a New York City high school teacher at Fort Hamilton High School and retired from that job in 1996 as a result of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Today Mr. Kenny is very active in veterans’ affairs, serves as a member of the Staten Island Marine Corps league, and acts as a mentor to a number of young men presently serving in the Marine Corps.
