Computers for Youth

Cindy Menz-Erb, Program Director of NYC

Computers for Youth helps low-income children do better in school by improving their learning environment at home by enhancing the educational resources available, improving parent-child interation around learning and helping teachers connect classroom learning with the home.

iMentor

Ellen Mahoney, Director of Volunteers
Since 1999, iMentor has been cultivating relationships between young people and volunteer adult mentors through an innovative combination of e-mail correspondence and in-person meetings. To-date, iMentor has matched over 5,000 mentor-mentee pairs, partnering with 30 NYC schools and after school programs in four of New York City’s five boroughs.

NYCEDC is the City’s primary vehicle for promoting economic growth in each of the five boroughs. They work to stimulate investment in New York across industry sectors and broaden the City’s tax and employment base, while meeting the needs of businesses large and small.

NY Immigration Coalition

The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) is an umbrella policy and advocacy organization for more than 200 groups in New York State that work with immigrants and refugees. NYIC tackles issues relating to policy analysis and advocacy, civic participation, community education and training and leadership development.

Just Food is a non-profit organization that works to develop a just and sustainable food system in the New York City region. Just Food works to foster new marketing and food-growing opportunities that address the needs of regional, rural family farms, NYC community gardeners and NYC communities.

Food Bank of NYC
Ashley Baughman, Director of Research and Education

Founded in 1983, the Food Bank For New York City is the only food bank in New York City, servicing Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Food Bank solicits, collects, purchases and stores food from manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and government agencies and distribute it to more than 1,000 nonprofit food assistance programs that provide free food to the hungry.

Founded in 1983, the Partnership for the Homeless is committed to building a just and equitable society and creating lasting community change through solution-oriented programs and policy initiatives that eliminate the root causes of homelessness.

Project Renewal
Jim Gallow

Project Renewal’s mission is to renew the lives of homeless men and women in New York City. They focus their efforts on the neediest and least-served of the city’s indigent population - men and women who, in addition to being without a home, cope with mental illness and/or addiction to drugs or alcohol. This comprehensive approach begins on the street where mobile psychiatric and medical teams reach out to homeless people where they are struggling to survive.

Solar One’s mission is to empower people of all ages with the vision, knowledge and resources to attain a more environmentally sound and sustainable future. They embrace this mission through unique initiatives that attract tens of thousands of people each year from throughout the five boroughs of New York.

Ron Shiffman
Professor, Pratt Institute

Ron Shiffman is a city planner with 45 years of experience providing program and organizational development assistance to community-based groups in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. Trained as an architect and urban planner, he is an expert in community-based planning, housing and sustainable development. He has had extensive experience bringing together private and public sector sponsors of housing and related community development projects.
