From The Peopling of New York City

My Neighborhood

I currently live in Flushing, Queens, where most of my neighbors are Koreans and Hispanic. However, I was born and raised in a small town in China. I identify myself more with my hometown and therefore answers the questions "where are you from" telling the questioner about my hometown. Although sometimes this can be hard because my hometown is small and very little known. At the same time, this allows me to be the sole authority to tell about my hometown to people and more often than not I describe it to be prettier than it is in reality.

My Education

I was educated in China's public schools until I arrived in the U.S. about 5 years ago. I spoke Chinese Mandarin while I was in China, though the school taught English as a foreign language. School is much more relaxing in the U.S. than it is in China.

NYC

I never really took advantage of living in NYC to travel it's many famous cites and renowned neighborhoods. I know the neighborhood where I live in, Flushing, well. Attending Baruch is slowly acquainting me with the Flatiron neighborhood. I became interested in many neighborhoods after hear the presentation at the initiation of this term and will begin to visit them.
