Hispanic Enrollment: Public vs: Private

The number of Hispanic students attending NYU had a steady increase from 2002 through 2005 and then became relatively stagnant.  The percentage of total enrollment has hovered around 5-6% over the past few years.  Compared to the Hispanic population of New York City(27%, according to 2000 census), Hispanics are greatly underepresented at NYU and other private universities.

The number of Hispanic sudents enrolled at Baruch College has stayed about the same over the recent years.  Hispanics have been very well represented at Baruch College(16-18% of total enrollment).  Much more than a private college, such as NYU.  This is most likely due to the fact that public universities tuition is significantly lower then that of private universities, which makes them much more accessible.
