The Issue

Should Woodside become a more commercial area filled with high-rise and low-rent apartment buildings?
OR
Should Woodside put emphasis on home or condo ownership?

What I think

Socioeconomic mobility is the ultimate goal for immigrants. To tear down one and two-family homes to make way for more affordable housing would be a mistake. At the same time, to accommodate only the wealthiest families would not benefit Woodside, it's residents, or the economy. Essentially, there must be a balance. If there is not, multi-family dwellings will become more of a breeding ground for illegal living habits and overcrowding. Enough economic incentives and legal disincentives must be established to discourage overcrowding and encourage habits that will lead to individual and community mobility. On the one hand, Woodside has been a great place for immigrants to get started. Conversely, however, if there could be opportunities for locational attainment within the neighborhood, opportunities would be endless.
