Why They Came

"We came here because transportation to the city was good, there were a lot of other young married couples with young children, and rents were reasonable"- Mr. Arthur Wichman, Kew Gardens Hills resident since 1954.[1]

Why They Come

According to Mr. Heshie Baron,the chairman of the Kew Gardens Hills Civic Association in 2002, young people come to Kew Gardens Hills "because of the Jewish infrastructure."[4]

In fact, this is a major draw for many of the neighborhoods newer residents. It makes it easy for Jewish people to feel comfortable in the area.

What They Feel It Has to Offer

"Kew Gardens Hills is ethnically diverse, but very close-knit" - Diane Cohen, district manager of local Community Board 8 [in 2002] [5]

"What the neighborhood offers is camaraderie,People of all different stripes are actively involved, whether it be in the community board, the homeowners association or the local Democratic clubs," - Mr. Avraham Schechter[6]

"The neighborhood was incredibly diverse — blacks, Jews, Puerto Ricans, Indians, Chinese." - Neil Kramer [7]
