John has one sister and two brothers, one of whom is a published author with his book Luncheonette: A Memoir that you can read about here. The Club Med Years

After having majored in French and become certified as a translator, John took a job at the New York headquarters of Club Med, a major vacation resort operator based in France. Eventually he gained enough experience in the job, and became the accounting manager for the North American and Caribbean resorts. Although the job gave him magnificent opportunities for world travel, he was dissatisfied with the corporate setting and wanted to return to school so he could eventually become an educator. When the time was right, he began a master's degree at Hunter College.

All Roads Lead to Paris

During his time at Hunter, John received the prestigious René Taupin Fellowship, an award that provided him the opportunity to live in Paris to research and write his master's thesis. Not only was it a successful intellectual experience for him, it was also an amazing personal one meeting many friends, and connecting with his European cousins. It was during his time in Paris that he decided to enroll in the doctoral program at CUNY, writing about homosexuality and religion in the works of André Gide.
