Welcome to our wiki! As a group of street savvy New Yorkers representing Brooklyn College, we zoomed in on a few streets in New York’s five boroughs, and selected intriguing sites that held personal significance to us.

Some chose ordinary, residential streets, only to discover rich histories of gambling and real estate speculation, the porous borders of immigration, racial divisions and inequalities, revolutionary intrigues, and community tragedies that enveloped New York neighbors in common cause.

Others chose streets with flashy nightclubs, buildings splattered with artwork, or schools, houses, parks, and cemeteries for which we hold a particular memory or fondness. Peeling back the layers of time, we discovered histories of New York’s industrial past, deeply moving stories involving struggle and protest, and important stories about the diverse people who lived here long before we arrived on the scene.

Click on our links to join us on the journeys we took throughout New York City, and the diverse sets of people we met along the way.
