Geevanesam Devakanmalai '21 (Lehman)

Geevanesam Devakanmalai ’21, called G by friends, is a Philosophy Major. She has accepted an offer at the University of Connecticut Storrs to pursue a PhD in Philosophy starting from Fall 2021. Originally on the Pre-amer track, she did research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in cancer immunotherapy and microbiology until her sophomore year. In Spring 2019, she took her first philosophy course, leading to her passion for the field. Throughout her first three years at Lehman College, she was heavily involved in campus activities, working at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions guiding students to apply to CUNY, organizing volunteering events for students as a Peer Educator, leading the campus Christian club in community service, and helping as a Peer Mentor in the Macaulay Bridge Program.

Once she graduates, Geevanesam plans on pursuing her PhD, going on to become a professor. With a strong interest in ethics, she is excited to work with Professor Lewis Gordon, a fellow Lehman Alum, at UConn to bring about global awareness and justice.
