Technological Awakening: Wires vs. Wireless

dscn3584.JPG

Today, technology is integrated into almost all aspects of people’s lives. Imagine a life without a cell phone, Ipod, computer, and the greatest advancement in this century, the Internet. The Internet is an easily accessible gateway to infinite amounts of information. Because of the fast-paced lifestyles that people have today, accessing the Internet anywhere at any time is very important. Technologies, such as wireless communications, and devices, such as blackberries and laptops, make this possible. Wires are no longer being used. Everything is becoming wireless thanks to technologies like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

In my collage, I used light blue paper as my background. I used blue because it represents the technology of Bluetooth and used light blue as opposed to dark blue, because wireless rays travel through the air making a color seem lighter. I then divided the page in two. On the left side, I put wired technologies, and on the right side, I put wireless technologies and words associated with wireless technologies, including “innovation,” “mobile,” “integrate,” “easy,” and “change.” The word “change” is put in the middle to reflect the change from wires to wireless. I also put the word Mac in because apple makes all its computers compatible with Bluetooth technology.

On the left side are wires tangled together, which represent the mess that wires cause. Also, on the left are a home computer with a wired connection to the Internet and a mouse connected to the computer by a wire. Then, looking at the right side you see the more efficient and convenient wireless technologies including wireless headphones, wireless printer, and a wireless router made by Netgear. I then showed laptops connected to each other and a printer by dotted lines representing wireless rays. These wireless connections help in the transfer and sharing of data. Also, because of wireless technologies laptops can connect to phones like a Blackberry, which has the Bluetooth capabilities. Another major concept on the right side is how easy it is to access the Internet because of wireless technologies. The globe represents the Internet and the antennas are all that are needed to connect to the Internet. The purple translucent paper and the white waves of energy that are connected to the antennas represent the wireless rays connected devices to the Internet.

Technology is constantly becoming more advanced and integrated into everyday tasks. Colleges and businesses cannot function without a stable network to transfer data. On a smaller scale, individuals are combining wireless technologies into the lives. One example of this is home networking in which individuals are creating wireless networks within their homes using just a simple device called a router. Technology is constantly advancing and every few years there is a technological awakening. There is really no telling what the future has in store in the field of technology.

My favorite part of your collage was the tangled headphones and wires. I like how you said it represents the mess the wires cause. I can totally relate! I hate getting my headphones all tangled up when it’s in my bag or when all the computer wires get so tangled that I can’t unplug anything because I don’t know what wire is for what. Overall I like your theme because it’s something that all of us can relate to.
