Integration Processes

Starting a new life in a foreign country is no easy feat. Because the United States does not have a national integration program, much of the work to help immigrants integrate ultimately is done by community-based organizations like the ones we interviewed. These organizations – including public schools, nonprofit service providers, churches, advocacy groups, and branch offices of foreign consulates – help immigrants by providing them with services that are personalized, linguistically accessible, and culturally sensitive. While many of these organizations receive government funding for the work they do, they stand out for the dedication they bring to the integration process. All in all, these organizations make integration a little easier and a little more humane for newcomers to our city.
