From The Peopling of New York City

Xiu Ming (Lily) Gao graduated from Townsend Harris High School. Throughout her four years in high school, Lily was a part of the Girls Handball Team and during her graduating year, helped her team make it in the finals for the first time in the team’s history. Lily is currently a student of the Macaulay Honors College at the City College of New York majoring in Management and Administration under Economics and minoring in English.

Money transactions occur daily, whether in the form of cash, checks, credit or bonds. Lily became interested in Economics after a high school economics class, which exposed her to the Enron story and the parties behind the scandal. What better way to understand your own finances and the corporate world than to major in a field that deals with both governmental and non-governmental policies and their applications to businesses, finances, and various organizations.

At City College, Lily is a member of Partners in English, which pairs non-native English speaking students with fluent speakers to help improve the non-native English speaker’s English. She is also a member of the Rock Climbing and Paintball Club. Outside of college, Lily volunteers at a place called Project Happy. Project Happy is a Saturday program for little kids and handicapped people and is located on The Brookdale Campus of Hunter College.
