Lu Huang

From From Tevet to Iyar...

Hi, everyone! My name's Lu Huang. I was born in Mainland, China and immigrated to New York when I was eleven. My parents once wanted to give me an English name when I first came here, but I chose to keep my Chinese name. I think "Lu" sounds beautiful and it means jade in Chinese. I've been living in Syosset, Long Island since I first came here. I don't really like the life in Long Island; living there makes me feel old.

I love food, and that's why I used to think New York is the best place in this world, for I could find any food I want in this city. After taking Professor Ginsberg's class, I love this city even more because I see the profound culture meaning behind those various, delicious and exotic food--the appreciation and respect for diversity in New York.

I love to do Yoga when I am at home. I meditate a lot. I think Yoga gained me intelligence and helped me achieve an internal peace. I graduated from Syosset High School. In high school, I was a member of National Honors Society and the president of Martin Luther King Club as well as the school representative of Mathematics Olympiad(even though I didn't win any award). I don' think those things are quite worth remembering, but I really miss those days when my friends and I could sneak out of the class and window-shop in the city. I miss those days because it's getting harder to make friends in college and life becomes not easy. I have to start thinking about my career and future now.

I'm happy to be in Baruch College because I see a lot of hard-working people here. And the professors really care about their students. It's a pleasure to be in Professor Ginsberg's IDC class; before, I didn't expect that I could learn so much from this class; she's strict, but she cares about us and really wants us to learn something in this class.
