First Wave: 1959-1962

From The Peopling of NYC

A film by Andy Garcia about the impact of Socialism on Cuba's Middle Class
The first great wave of Cuban immigration is considered to have started around the mid 20th century – when the upper classes of Cuban society, threatened economically and politically more so than any other sector, came to the US. They were skilled and educated and proved to be most economically successful when compared to future waves as well as politically involved in American foreign policy.
