H: Please talk to us about your history.
A: Our family immigrated from China to Vietnam. Not us but rather our parents generation, the earlier generation. My generation was born in Vietnam.
H: And then you came to the United States...
A: Yes, we came to United States in 1975 because of the Vietnam War and the subsequent communist takeover. I came in 79. My husband came to the United States in 1975.
H: I see. My parents came during the 80's.
A: Well, my husbad went through Thailand, then Paris, France where he lived for four months. Then he came to the United States. I went through Hong Kong in 1975, then US for rest of family.
H: What languages does your son speak?
A: My son only speaks Fujianese. I can read, write, and speak Vietnamnese.
H: How long have you owned this store.
A: This store was open 15 years. The old one was at East Broadway at Confucious plaza. This was in 1982.
H: I see. Well thank you for your time. We have to get going. A: No problem. What's your name? H: 'Chan Hsi'. A: Which 'Hsi'? H: The Hsi thats found on the emperor's stamp. A: Ohh. Ok. Come back whenever you can!
