Jewish Women in the United States

From The Peopling of NYC

Not only were the women housewives, but they also played a great role in helping to build the “American Dream.” In Cleveland and Detroit, women staged kosher meat boycotts, along with other protests to gain support for their difficult lifestyles. Others tended to their husband’s pushcarts in the Lower East Side, New York, while the men took on other duties. Women began working long hours throughout the entire country, trying to earn enough to feed the family.
