Jobs that Jews held

At the beginning of the 20th century, 25% of Jews were in trade/clerical work. The amount of Jews who owned a commercial enterprise was very small. Three decades later, 57% of Jews were in trade/clerical work and 40% were in commercial enterprise.

In 1930, 71% of Russian Jewish sons held first jobs that were classified as middle class. Jews earned 16-20% more than other groups because of their longer schooling and academic performance, but they usually followed the business route to prosperity before finishing school. By the mid-1930s 50% of the applicants to medical school and an almost and equal proportion of applicants to law school were Jewish.
