The Jewish Reaction to World War II

From The Peopling of NYC

Despite Roosevelt's stall tactics and inaction (explain), Jews remained loyal to the Democratic Party. They believed that winning the war, not rescuing their brethren was the priority. The Holocaust taught the Jews the lesson of the need for unity. Jewish Americans had always helped Jews abroad, and WWII was no exception. Many Jews and Jewish organizations sent different kinds of aid to their brethren in Europe. When reports of atrocities in Europe hit America, they made a deep impression on the Jewish American psyche and eventually on Jewish American life and culture as well.
