Jesús G. Estrada

Biografía

Jesús Estrada was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where he lived for about two years before moving to his mother's birthplace in Barranquilla, Colombia. He stayed there for five years till his parents decided to come to New York. He started second grade and began learning english from scratch. It wasn't till the fifth grade that he sparked an interest for learning and being a top student. In junior high school he kept moving up towards top class and eventually got accepted to Brooklyn Technical High School. A big accomplishment that he would never forget. Taking advanced courses in both math and science, Jesus also had an interest in learning languages. Aside from speaking English and Spanish fluently, he had a desire to learn others. Everyday he would read ahead in his french textbook and talk to his french teacher about what he had learned. Starting from the very beginning, in three years he had taken the AP French Language exam, an unprecedented move in his school. At the same time he was able to take advanced courses in chemistry and master his chemistry skills. During his senior year, by word of mouth he had learned about the Hispanic AIDS Forum. He got involved in the Latino Youth In Action (LYIA) Program were he learned about HIV/AIDS and LGBT related issues. After the course was over, he was able to apply his knowledge in outreach events through out his community. Upon getting accepted to the Macaulay Honors College, yet another unimaginable accomplishment for Jesus, he is mastering his chemistry and language skills. Jesus wishes to pursue LIU Pharmacy School once he graduates from the Macaulay Honors College.
