The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition works with about 1,000 retailers and merchants found on some of the more industrial parts of Astoria like Steinway Street, Broadway, 30th Avenue and 36th Avenue. The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition helps merchant organizations by providing funds to help clean the streets and provides street banners to promote the area so that new businesses will find Astoria desirable.
There are approximately 300 businesses on Steinway Street, which is also known as the "World's Largest Department Store".
The Business Improvement District for Steinway Street is essentially a partnership between the property and business owners of the area, where they elect to make a collective contribution to the maintenance, development and marketing/promotion of their commercial district.
