Interview with Rev. David Ellis

From The Peopling of Astoria, Queens

In an interview with a reverend of one of the prominent Presbyterian Churches
in Astoria, weddings are generally performed two to three times a year. The
pastor always requires that couples seek pre-martial counseling or training
once plans have been announced to get married. The pastor himself often
conducts these sessions with each couple. The couples the reverend sees are
often getting married in their thirties and there has also been couples
getting married in their forties. There aren’t many young couples getting
married in their twenties. The reverend also said that the Church does not
perform weddings between Christians and non-Christians, so personal faith is
often an issue discussed in the pre-marital counseling sessions. The reverend
has also yet to see a marriage end in divorce, but cautioned that the danger
always exists.
