Throughout the years, the town of Jamaica has become more diverse over the past decades. In the earlier years, the town of Jamaica was many inhabited by whites. However, over the past three decades, there has been a change in the population of whites, as well as the other races. Although there still is a majority of whites residing in Jamaica, their population has continuously decreased over the years. There has been an increase in the population of blacks since the 1980s, especially in the decade of the 1990s, where the population of blacks in Jamaica, was the highest of all three decades. The population of Asian and Pacific Islanders has also increased over the decades, and its population in 2000 is greater than the population of blacks. The race of American Indians and other races have increased as well, but the population of American Indians is the smallest of all the races.

Jamaica is known for its diversity and such a diversity wouldn't be possible without the incoming of immigrants. The incoming of immigration has had its up's and down's over the years. There was an increase from the years 1988 to 1990, and then in 1991, the incoming of immigrants decreased. In the years from 1996 to 1999, there was a constant decrease in the incoming of immigrants to Jamaica, and it was in 1999 when the lowest number was documented. After that year, the number of immigrants increased to 2000, but Jamaica has had an decreased since then.
