BAM

Upon walking into BAM I felt like I was walking into a time capsule. The old walls with the brick exposed to the decaying columns in the theater set the atmosphere for an “interesting” time.

I was very skeptical at first at this production because it incorporated many different elements of art (film, acting and some dance done by that crazed ballerina).

However, the play spoke to me. With the previous expose for Cornell’s art, I expected him to be somewhat loony. His art was a collection of random objects place together to represent something. His art parallel his life, as portrayed in the play. Random people and objects with in his mind, like the three men and the ballerina, came out on stage. But what was more interesting was how they came out on stage. They entered and existed from different angels and made different movements. These people were making art within the space of Cornell’s mind and also on stage.

The last scene had the most impact on me. Cornell finally found happiness because in the previous scene he had arranged all the objects and people to fit the box like stage.

Oh…I like that interpretation of the last scene. Fit and arrange things like his life. Funny, does anyone ever the get the sensation that you understand something, but can’t actually articulate it?
