In the Classroom

From The Peopling of New York City

i think it would be a good idea if we all put these links like this at the bottom of all immigrant pages:[1]

references

  1. adbksmfv
Home -- History -- Slave Owners -- Walking tour-lower manhattan

That way the user can navigate freely throughout the wiki without having to press back each time. We can change the titles accordingly

I arranged them that way after i wrote here, but before it was a mess. i already uploaded the map i just dont know where to put it. i also put a link for skins on the skin talk page -Araceli

JG: looks like you've put the pix nicely (to me, at least). How would you like to arrange them? You can upload your map by clicking on "make a map" (under the formatting toolbar on edit page). Or you might try uploading in "Upload file" there on the navigation toolbox.

Araceli: Is there any way to format images to fit around the text? I have some pictures for David Abeel but i just stuck them there but i dont like how it looks. Any tips? Also where should i upload a map of all the docks? On the main slave conspiracy page?

Hey guys, You might put up any remaining questions or research here that you don't know where it belongs. Also, feel free to ask questions here. I'll be checking the page. JG

Main Page Content:

   * Who We Are
   * What does "Search for Elusive Immigrant" mean?
   * What will you find on this site?
         o 1 picture from each group page
         o 1 short paragraph about each group
UPDATE - For adding footnotes and citations: The Cite feature is now installed and working. [1]. What you do is enter the text you want for the reference or footnote between the tags [1], and then at the bottom of the page add the tag
  1. and
(if you neglect to add this, then the notes won't show up anywhere).

Or follow this: Frontend work

1) First, tell the reader where to look for the footnotes by editing the page and placing a heading at the bottom of the page that says something like ==notes== or ==citations==, etc. (the equal signs are what makes it a heading, you recall)

2) Beneath that heading, place a marker that tells the wiki where to place the footnotes. You can do this by typing the following on the line below the notes heading:

3) Finally, just after your sentence, enclose your full citation within [1] tags, so it looks like this:

According to scientists, CCNY is pretty cool.[2]

The wiki will do the rest.

The text that was on the home page can now be found on this page's Talk Page.

What we need to accomplish today and in the next few days:

   * Banner/Logo - Who volunteers? We need two people to work together.
   * Skin? - Gumax
   * Clean up your User Page
   * Add remaining Content and Organize your Group Pages
   * Develop Navigation (in the Navigation Bar and on each group's Portal Page)
   * Develop Main Page content, as well as Intro to Brooklyn content

I will confirm whether or not 4 or 5 people need to bring their fully-charged computers to the event for the expo portion of the evening.

Good Luck!
