Humor

So when I first started writing this blog entry, it was five in the morning and I had just finished watching the movie "Annie Hall" with Woody Allen and Diane Keaton. It is no longer 5 in the morning and after many technical difficulties I am BACK to write this entry for the LAST time.=) Watching "Annie Hall" made me consider the different mediums through which we are exposed to opposing viewpoints.  I realized that humor should be considered an art form. I don't know if it is formally considered one but if it isn't, it should be. People lay down a lot of money, time and effort to see theatre, opera or go to museums and they do the same for comedy shows. Laughter gives people pleasure just as being exposed to art is supposed to and the performer also has a chance to promote their  viewpoint through their performance. Unfortunately, in my opinion, contemporary comedians have branched out into a new kind of comedy. Theirs is much more sexual and explicit. Maybe that is to say that the audience is more mature now and wants to hear these things but in my opinion, there is something so much funnier about the older comedians. People like Mitch Hedberg, Woody Allen, Phyliss Diller and Bill Cosby became famous because they were legitimately funny about everyday things. Now it is the subject matter that is funny, talking about sex and masturbating and telling thoroughly racist jokes. In my opinion, the performers aren't so funny anymore and I am starting to feel right now as if I am writing an obituary for good humor. I really don't mean for this to turn into a criticism of modern comedy, but after seeing Woody Allen on screen for I think the first time in my life, I realized what I have thought for a long time, is true; current comedians cannot measure up to their predecessors.

Anyway, "Annie Hall" is a great movie I recommend everyone to see it!
