Independent Visit 3: Bello's Big Apple Circus

You have probably seen this advertisement around the city. Well, this past Sunday I actually attended the circus with my family and a friend. Though I must say that I initially had different expectations as to what I was going to witness. I for some reason confused the circus with a magic show, and expected to see tricks like putting someone in a box and then cutting in half. Nevertheless, the circus did not fall short in any way for it was comical and exhilarating all at once. One of my favorite performances was by the Asian twins who were dressed in this 70's, bright orange body suit. The two men were the most flexible individuals I have ever seen. In this particular trick they each had a silver hoop of a 1 foot diameter hanging from one arm. They continued to pass their whole body through the hoop in what seemed to be the most awkwardly flexible way. My jaw literally dropped. Their other tricks consists of being in sync with each other to do stands and lifts that seem to defy physics itself. The circus performance also consisted of the use of a woman doing aerial dancing with the use of two fabric pieces hanging from the roof. Moreover, there was the use of a trampoline, a horse, and dog(note: these are animal rescue dogs).

However, my absolute favorite part of the circus was the last performance which was of trapeze. This summer I actually tried trapeze for the first time after being dragged to by my best friend. I remember initially being afraid to leg of the bar I had previously been instructed to hold. Yet, once I overcame this fear the rest was effortless and actually pretty fun. However, the circus tricks were much more professional than anything I had tried. There were literally moments in which these gymnasts were flying midair from one bar to another. There were no safety ropes or anything attached to their bodies. Instead their own security came from the safety net below in case they did not grasp the bar as they should have. Either way, all of the performances were entertaining and for many of the tricks you felt that you just might witness some individual died. Luckily, no one ever did.
