LOVE sculpture in N.YC

<!--StartFragment-->

When talking about art we think about photographs or paintings, but sculptures are also a unique form of art that we often forget about. So I tried to think of different sculptures I have seen in New York and I came up with one. My favorite sculpture is right in Manhattan on Sixth Avenue, it’s the sculpture of LOVE made by Robert Indiana. The sculpture is basically the letters L-O-V-E carved out in red blocks sitting on top of each other. After I saw the sculpture I decided to find out more about it and it turns out the sculpture was created during the Vietnam War as a symbol for peace and love. Even though it is so simple and straightforward its beautiful to look at and unique. I love to go see the sculpture because it just simply reminds people who pass it everyday to love. I think everyone should go see it and allow themselves to be moved by something so simple J

Too me this sculpture is the definition of art because it expresses a message to its audience in the most clearest way possible. I don’t think anyone can say this isn’t art or that it isn’t moving. I love how the artist situated the sculpture, it is carefully placed on a street with not much else around it, so it is hard to ignore. People walking down the street are inevitably are drawn to the sculpture because of its size and because of its simple message LOVE.
