Created more than 4000 years ago during the Xia Dynasty, Martial arts is another art in motion that requires extreme  self-discipline and knowledge and practice. Despite the fact that most people call it Kung Fu, the real term for the fighting/self-defense style is called Wushu. Martial arts are not used for violence solely. The motion of martial arts are poetic and can be used in many dances. It requires constant training to master the "art in action." There are many types of martial art forms and each form has its own strengths, creativity and uniqueness. Some of the styles consists of Eagle Claw, Five Animals, Monkey, Praying Mantis, Fujian White Crane, Tai Chi Chuan, Wing Chun and so forth. All these types of art form call for in depth observations and study like other higher tier art forms such as "the Scream" painted by Edvard Munch. (Again, high tier art is judged by individuals and not one person can say this type of art is of higher tier.) For one to create this type of "art in motion" compels artistry.
Walking by the parks in NYC's Chinatown or watching Hollywood-made "Kungfu" movies, one can see the practice of the martial arts by various young and old people regardless of race. The most famous martial artists known to contemporary America would be Bruce Lee, followed by Jet Li and Jackie Chan. They use martial arts to provide enjoyable entertainment. However, one must know that this type of art form deserves mutual respect as to all other art forms. It should not be mocked on any level.
Martial arts, once used to kill the opposing side during the reign of Chinese dynasties, is philosophical in many ways. It requires one's mind to be peaceful, while doing the martial arts or it would be like making a mistake on painting. Martial arts can be compared to any photograph or painting or even poem except, martial arts is the action of the piece of art. Ultimately, many styles of martial arts mimic the motion of animals and other styles gathered inspiration from Chinese philosophers, such as Confucius, myths and legends. This type of art is truly valued, not by price, but by the motion/flow and practice of it.
