Photography Exhibit

Having the opportunity to visit the Photography Museum yesterday was truly a great experience to view “art” in a different form other than drawing and paintings. The day started out a bit complicated for me because I didn’t receive my cultural passport yet. The ticket lady gave me a hard time, but eventually, I was able to pass through because of the kind security guard. After entering the exhibit, I explored around the exhibit with a couple of classmates and realized the art that was contained in all of the photos around.

Moments later, we had the great opportunity of having a tour guide thanks to our teacher Ms. Bergman. The tour guide explained to the class that John Wood was a photographer in the 1960’s that dealt with contemporary issues at the time. He took many different types of photos; from daisies and a pistol to images of the Vietnam War. Other photos included a dead eagle, a cactus and a nuclear plant. I found these photos very interesting and filled with meaning. I thought the picture with the daisies and gun represented bloodshed from the gun, but also peace because of the daisies that surrounded the gun. However, I really liked Fred’s interpretation when he said that the daisies represented graves.

After explaining the picture about the gun and the daisies, we moved on to a more serious issue. The tour guide explained to us about the photos of the Vietnam War that were posted in a newspaper. It was a picture of bodies and body parts lying on the ground as a result of the Vietnam War. The other photos surrounding the bodies were a blurb. A reason for the blurb that was given was because the United States didn’t really know much about what was going on in the Vietnam War. I totally agree with the explanation. After that photo, we got to look at the rest of the photos ourselves. It was quite an interesting view I must say. Overall, it was a great experience and I gained more knowledge about the photography world.
