SNAPSHOT Galley @ Macaulay

Last Sunday, I attended the Macaulay Snapshot gallery of the photographs taken on October 11. Seeing as I had to be at the school by 9am , I expected some significant tasks to be presented. However, for the most part I found that the event was unorganized. To begin, there were no clear groups formed, instead it was up to the individual to make the group. Next, there was no clear leader who directed the students or really explained what was to be done. Everyone seemed to be going around with their own business. Lastly, it seemed as if the people organizing the event did not wish to be there either ( I don't blame them). My group was hurried into finishing our video because they needed our table space. The event was more of a checklist item, in the sense that you did not have to do a good job, you just had to do it.

Apart from the organization of the event, it seemed like the task was rather pointless in itself. I found it strange that we were video typing still photographs. For the most part video should involve movement and video taping photographs did not really demonstrate much action. I felt like the whole event was trying to make this SnapShot idea more meaningful than it actually was. It was like they were trying too hard to make it fun, I guess. I enjoyed talking about the photographs in class more than making the video which did not analyze anything real special about the photographs. For next year, there should be a more creative idea as to what to do with the photographs taken. Maybe just setting up a mural that has a collage of the photographs for display would suffice. This way people could enjoy looking at the photographs instead feeling forced to.
