String Quartet

I was happy that one of this event was right here in Baruch. I was surprised to see that there were older people attending. I assumed it would have been students from Baruch or other campuses. The music was really beautiful. I admire the violin and other string instruments so much because I find it so incredibly hard. Not only do you have to know what to touch but you need to know how to play it. A lot of skill must be involved in that. I also really liked the kind of music. I find classical music to be so calming, yet thought provoking at the same time.

I loved how at times it would be slow and then out of no where get louder and faster. The songs themselves were very different. Some were slow and seemed kind of sad, while others were upbeat. The sound that I picked out the best and would find myself listening out for the most, was the violin at the end that seemed to have the highest pitch. This violin in many of the songs seemed to be the leader providing the quicker, more bold sound against the other instruments.

One thing that was kind of hard for me was that many times I could not tell what the performers were doing. Sometimes it would look like they weren't moving the bow of the violin at all, yet there was so much going on the I knew they must all be playing at once.

After the intermission, another violinist was brought out. This greatly increased the power of the music. It seemed like it was coming from everywhere.

All in all I really liked the music of the Alexander String Quartet.
