Tim Burton Films at the MoMA

I went to see Frankenweenie and Ed Wood, two films by Tim Burton, tonight at the MoMA. I was really happy to have the chance to see two of his films that are hard to come across. Both were really interesting, and I left feeling just as obsessed with Burton as I had been upon entering. I feel like his work is so unique and fun. I would love to know how his mind works and how he comes up with so many truly original ideas. I was disappointed that I couldn't see the exhibit, but I will definitely be going back before the exhibition is over! Both films were, to my surprise, in black and white. I am generally not drawn to films that are in black and white, but the content of Burton's productions was so intriguing that I realized that I wasn't even paying attention to the lack of color. I think maybe the black and white made me focus more on what was happening rather than how things looked. Both films were creative and interesting, but they were entirely different. I think that really displays how dynamic of an artist Burton really is. He has the capacity to work across many mediums and work with many different kinds of ideas, but ultimately makes everything he does his own. I am glad that I had an opportunity to view these films so close to where I live, it was really a worthwhile and fun way to view the art of film by an artist that I really love!
