Cornelius Van Horne

From The Peopling of New York City

Cornelius Van Horne

Cornelius van Horne was the son of Abraham van Horne and Maria Provost. Cornelius van Horne had a brother named Abraham van Horne.[1] Census Records that I observed reported that Cornelius lived in the Middletown Township in New jersey.(Refer to map)

My search for Cornelius always met dead ends. I realized that while going through city directories and other records, that Cornelius' brother Abraham van Horne was more prominent than him. There were several books and newspaper accounts of his brother, and very minimal wriiten about Cornelius van Horn. Cornelius was a politician in the Country party. One of the articles I came across pointed that in one of the elections, Cornelius van Horne lost to Adolph Phillips, and this led to many controversies, claiming that the votes were influenced by favoritism and an investigation was held.[2]
