Individual Event #1: Cultural Shock @ Columbia University

On November 21, 2009, I attended a event in one of the auditoriums of Columbia University. Firstly, the campus was very grand and beautifully made. It’s a realm of nature with large green fields within the concrete urban surrounding it.

House of the Dead: First Impressions (1)

As I was reading Memoirs from the House of the Dead, I could very much relate with one factor the narrator pointed out. This point was the idea that prison work was not so difficult nor it did it require a lot of man power. What made prison work so cruel and unbearable was the fact that it was obligatory and not complying meant punishment. I found that when the narrator realized this, I completely agreed with him.

Independent Event #1: Precious

Last week, I went to go see the film Precious. Before last week, I had no idea what the movie was nor did I know what it was about. However, Stephanie brought the idea up to go watch it along with Natasha. The three of us walked to the theater to watch Precious which was featured in Sundance, Toronto and Cannes Film Festivals. It won many awards and was based on a novel titled Push

Markers: Madison Square Park

Many sculptors often have their work appraised because of the obvious talent that is required to depict a recognizable object. For instance, a sculpture of a naked human body is appreciated because of the exactness it portrays in size relations, forms, and angles and even perhaps the facial expression. However, Mel Kendrick's work exhibited in Madison Square park named "Markers" is unique in its abstract content. Viewers strain their eyes to recognize something, anything, a chair-like- shape or even a geometrical shape.

Independent Event #2: Wintuk

Yesterday, I went to see Cirque Du Soleil's Wintuk at Madison Square Garden. I had very high expectations for this show, this being my fifth time seeing Cirque and having been so impressed by the quality of all their other shows. Furthermore, my and my mom had been wanting to see this show since last year, and the anticipation made me want to see it even more. In addition, the advertising for Wintuk was heavy.
