American Folk Art Museum

Last week a couple of us wanted to go to the MoMa to see the Tim Burton exibit. However, none of us realized that the MoMa is actually closed on Tuesdays! (Just so everyone knows... it is!)

So we were about to give up when we saw another museum right by it, The American Folk Art Museum. I don't think I've ever noticed this before, but American folk art has very specific characteristics, or at least that's what I picked up from viewing the art there.

Precious

A couple weeks ago, Stephanie reccomended a film called Precious. I don't see films too often, so I usually don't know what's out, but I had heard of this film from my sister who is very up to date with this medium. As we waited for it to begin, we looked it up and found out that it was featured in the Sundance, Toronto, and Cannes Film Festivals. I then thought, "ok, it'll be worth it" and it DEFINETLY was!

Death to people sentenced for prison

Dostoyevsky’s The Memoir from the House of the Dead can be simply described as dark, sad story of those who were man, for their crimes, are sentenced for prison, and women are simply prostitutes who can satisfy their needs.
Having read this book I wondered how could it possibly be staged and more over how could it be performed as an opera.

Individual Visit #2: Trip to the American Folk Art Museum

On Tuesday, when most of us have quite a large chunk of free time in between classes, Natasha, Stephanie, Aimee, Laura, Jerrica, and I went on a trip to the MoMA. Who would have thought that the MoMA would be closed on Tuesdays? We were all shocked by the sign that was planted outside the museum indicating that it was not open. I was definitly disappointed because I had hoped to see the Tim Burton exhibit that everyone was raving about. I caught a glimpse of it during our class tour of the MoMA. I told myself that I would return to see the exhibit.

Snapshot Macaulay

The snapshot exhibit at the Macaulay building and the video activity was really fun. When I first discovered that this event would interfere with my usual Sunday morning activities I was upset, but once I got there I didn’t let the negativity affect me. I encouraged myself to be cheerful, and in a few moments I got excited about the project at hand.
