Besides its famous Canal Street stores and bakeries, Chinatown also has many other types of businesses.

Ng Fook Funeral Home

Ng Fook Funeral Home

The Ng Fook Funeral Home was established by the Chen family in 1976. The funeral home was previously run by American Italians, but after the Chinatown expanded into Little Italy, the home was converted into a traditional Chinese funeral service home. Today, it is run by Amy Mak and Wilson Mak Chen and provides quality and reliable service to the local community.

In addition, Amy Mak Chen and the other members of the community founded the Chinese Funeral Fund to provide financial aid to poverty-stricken families and childless senior citizens. [1]

A fellow Chinatown resident who has been using the funeral home for years describes the funeral home as very orderly. The staff works diligently to make the clients feel comfortable by offering translations, ushering guests, following traditions properly, and being very informative about cemeteries, procedures and prices.
