A large number of Dominican immigrants now reside in the Bronx. We decided to focus on Fordham, in the Bronx. A large number of Dominican immigrants moved to the Bronx because of an increase in rent in Manhattan, especially in Washington Heights. Fordham houses many Dominican businesses such as restaurants and salons.
Bushwick, Brooklyn
Bushwick, Brooklyn, which was predominantly white in the 1960s and 1970s now houses a large number of Dominicans and other Hispanic groups. This is because after economic depressions and deterioration of the neighborhood housing, the residents who could afford to left. Immigrants who had low incomes moved into this neighborhood because of the low rent.
Bushwick is located in the northeastern part of Brooklyn. The population of Caribbean people in Bushwick is primarily made up of Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, though other Caribbean and Latin American communities are starting to form. Bushwick is made up of mostly shopping centers, wide avenues, and multi-family homes and apartment buildings.
