Markers: Madison Square Park

Many sculptors often have their work appraised because of the obvious talent that is required to depict a recognizable object. For instance, a sculpture of a naked human body is appreciated because of the exactness it portrays in size relations, forms, and angles and even perhaps the facial expression. However, Mel Kendrick's work exhibited in Madison Square park named "Markers" is unique in its abstract content. Viewers strain their eyes to recognize something, anything, a chair-like- shape or even a geometrical shape.

MOMA trip

My second trip to the MOMA today was more enlightening then the last since I realized the necessity of having background information. Previously I had passed by the Picasso painting of Ma Jolie while not believing it to be such a masterpiece. However, today when we stood before it and analyzed how it actually represented a woman playing a guitar, I appreciated the art more extensively. Professor Bergman revealed how Picasso had stripped the woman and guitar into dispersed fragments. Hence, to view the subject one had to piece together the parts through deep concentration.

Alexander String Quartet

The Alexander String Quartet performance was done by obvious skilled professionals. From the moment they began, I noticed that their melodies were so in sync and pleasant to the ear. I noticed some techniques in particular of these 4 musicians. In one instance, 3 of the musicians would play the same tunes while one drew more attention than the others by subtly playing different notes.

MOMA- Independent Visit 2

This friday I visited the MOMA and stood in front of some amazing art pieces. What usually catches my eyes is the manipulation of color especially bright, vibrant ones. One piece by Gustav Klimt was especially attractive because of the intense greens that portrayed a green forest. The majority of the painting was composed of the leaves of these forrest trees, that were actually made of points. Without the bottom part of the painting that reveals thin tree trunks, it would not be clear that these points are actually leaves.
