Common Event: Poetry

Upon arriving at the Macaulay  honors college for Thursday night's common event, I was surprised to see that it was a reading of poetry, not of literature or of any other more scholarly subject. I was quite happy to find that Macaulay common events were not as conservative as I previously thought. It was refreshing to see and hear a young group of people express themselves through poetry, and it was an event that was very contrasting to any other Macaulay event we've ever been to. Overall, the experience was good.

Film: Paranormal Activity

As I have said before, I'm somewhat disappointed that we do not touch upon the topic of film in this class.

Carnegie Hall: Meeting and ACJW Concert

When I stepped into the Carnegie Hall conference room where our IDC class was to meet the Artistic Director at Carnegie Hall, I was truly grateful to be part of the compilation of Macaulay honors Students. It is an honor that really is a privilege to have. It is incredible to me that we are able to have a formal meeting with no other than the artistic director of one of the most prestigious artistic performance halls there is in NYC. Carnegie Hall has worldwide fame, and here we were, a group of Baruch freshman, at a conference table with a man of tremendous status.

Casual Dancing within Cultures

Throughout this week, I had a lot of celebration to do. Not only was it my birthday, but also my dads and little cousins. For my birthday, I went clubbing and had a very interesting experience. I also attended a family party for my little cousins birthday party. Both were two extremely distinct experiences, and I would like to address the kinds of dancing that occur within cultures and the dancing tendencies that certain cultures have. I will be making general assumptions and stereotyping but also making keen observations as a dancer.

The Irishman who read.

I thought it was peculiar that we were required to go to the Joseph O' Connor reading as part of IDC. For all of our other Meet The Artist events, we've had to meet an individual who has played a significant role in the artistic community, like the photographer who traveled to New Orleans to take pictures of the Katrina aftermath. This time, it was a reading and oddly enough I had to be there for my English class as well. Overall, I loved Joseph O'Connors excerpts. I was inspired enough to write down certain lines of his excerpts because they really were so profound.
