Independent Visit #1 Museum of Art and Design

Last week I went to the Museum of Art and Design with Jerrica and Laura, and it was FASCINATING ! The exhibit was called Slash and it was different art pieces made completely out of paper. All the artwork was done so meticulously and refined that it was hard to believe it was made solely out of paper. The life-sized man was so weirdly fascinating to me. It was composed of colored paper with the exact parts of the body on the paper, fitting perfectly to form the man's body and looking unbelievably real.

Les Demoiselles d'Avignon

Viewing Les Demoiselles d'Avignon a second time, after the class discussion, shed a whole new light on the piece. I, of course, had noticed the large size of the painting during my visit, but it was all the more daunting the second time around. Keeping in mind that the prostitutes in the work expected a tradeoff, something in return, and that the work wasn't going to let me look at it's beauty for free, my discomfort gained unexpected worth. It was my payment. I find this idea rather fascinating, that something inanimate has the right to demand an emotion back from you.

The Bauhaus: Independent Event # 3

String Quartet

I was happy that one of this event was right here in Baruch. I was surprised to see that there were older people attending. I assumed it would have been students from Baruch or other campuses. The music was really beautiful. I admire the violin and other string instruments so much because I find it so incredibly hard. Not only do you have to know what to touch but you need to know how to play it. A lot of skill must be involved in that. I also really liked the kind of music. I find classical music to be so calming, yet thought provoking at the same time.
